This is my naming convention:Īs you can see, the date goes first, followed by consecutive numbers (from 01 to whatever number of pictures I took that day), followed by the description of the picture. If all the pictures were dumped in the same folder, they would ALL line up in perfect chronology, in the order that I took them over the years. Also, dating the photos helps a lot when I want to retrieve them, because I can usually place the photo shoot in time by remembering that I did the shoot "after this" and "before that". With simple dates I won't have to bother with categories, expanding categories, inventing new categories, etc. I date all my pictures, because the chronological way of putting pictures in order is more straightforward than topical systems. In my collection of more than 60 GB's of pics - it takes me around ONE MINUTE to find the picture I'm looking for, because I use a chronological system for naming the pictures and organising the pictures. Yours can be just as good, this is just an example, but it certainly works for me: I would like to hear how YOU go about it, if you think you have a good system. So, it is important to think about a system for naming pictures and picture-cd's. Think about this: Pictures you can't find are JUST AS USELESS as pictures that are completely lost.
